MICHAEL JASNY

Michael Jasny is an associate of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a non-profit environmental group with over 400,000 members nationwide, through which he has fought for land conservation, marine mammal protection, and environmental justice. One of his chief concerns these last few years has been anthropogenic ocean noise and its impacts on marine life. In 1999, his report on this issue (Sounding the Depths: Supertankers, Sonar, and the Rise of Undersea Noise) - the first such report to have been undertaken by an NGO - was published by NRDC; a second edition is in process. He has also authored reports and articles on regional land planning and groundwater depletion. Michael was graduated from Harvard Law School in 1994 and is currently a doctoral student at UCLA, dissertating in the completely unrelated field of law and literature.
